Focusing Basics

Photos by DYLAN FERNANDES

In this photo I attempted to take a picture of the legs in focus with my model behind the legs blurred out. However it was difficult to get the focus aperture down low as it was getting stuck on 5.3

I was able to fix this problem as a simple solution was to just move in closer to take the shot, this way the focus aperture was able to get down even lower but only to around 4.9-5. As well as decreasing the aperture I also got rid of some of the unnecessary background and was able to focus more on the models.
This photo worked out the best as the legs are shown in complete focus where as my model behind her is out of focus. Thus creating a depth of field. I think the photo could have been improved even more If i had taken a photo of my model behind the legs in focus rather than the legs.

My final image was a close up of my models eye with a slight reflection and light piercing through. However the focus of the shot is on her nose rather than the eye but creates an effect of uncertainty. Light going through her eye reflects a golden colour and this matches with the same tone as the hair in the background. Overall I think this photo was a sucess.
